Beware of exaggerated expectations, many other people don’t same experience.
For those who have tried reboot-issue-workaround-v4 · Turris / MOX boot-builder · GitLab some people have reported that it fixed the reboot issue for them, and some reported that it did not.
For my Mox (edit: currently running TOS 5.4.4 in HBT branch), also an early Indiegogo backer, the v4 fix worked after a cold reboot. I updated via ssh, issued ‘reboot’ and the Mox came back. Then I ssh’d in and issued ‘reboot’ and the Mox hung. After a cold boot, everything appears to work. I ssh’d in and issued ‘reboot’ 5x in a row and the Mox rebooted cleanly each time.
For those for whom it did not work, did anyone need to debrick? I suspect that number is zero or close to zero.
Since the current behavior on many Mox routers without the firmware upgrade is to hang on reboot, it is fairly typical to have to cold boot the router after an upgrade takes place. Given that, can the updated firmware be rolled out – or at least be made available as a push-button opt-in in Foris – so that people more people with the reboot issue are running the v4 firmware?
Could the v4 firmware rollout be combined with Mox: update u-boot to latest version (#589) · Issues · Turris / Turris OS / Turris OS packages · GitLab ?
Possible solution could be TOS 6.
I am on the HBK with TOS 6.0 and seems the reboots are fine for now. But that might be, because I’m not using SDIO WiFi.
My mox seems to reboot properly too, after the upgrade to TOS 6.0 (it was almost always failing before)
Unfortunately, it also reboots… randomly every few hours
//EDIT: Created new thread for that: Mox reboots randomly after TOS 6.0 upgrade - #2 by Pepe
Will getting a new module A help with the hang on soft reboot problem?
Were there any hardware changes made to the module A on sale now that solves this issue?
I can also report that after update to TOS 6 my reboots seems to finally work reliably
Confirmed! My MOX also works as expected.
I tried 20 reboots in a row and about 1/3 of the time the MOX didn’t boot. Am I alone or does this problem still partially persist? TOS 6.0.3
Hi,
in my case (TOS 6.0.3) it is quite simple :
- when wifi is on, MOX will not reboot
or
- when wifi is off, MOX reboots ok
Simple config with HAAS and some static DHCP settings… So I recomend switch both wifi off and router will reboot, there is probably some problem with wifi driver on MOX.
My MOX (which is MOX Classic actually) reboots as expected with Wifi turned ON. But I did it only twice so I will check it again to make sure it really works…
I have no wifi in my MOX.
My MOX wont reboot. Wifi present but off. TOS 6.2.0. Will the thing ever do what it was made for?
Same for me. Reboot never works. I have to power cycle it every time.
Diagnostics: Nextcloud
My MOX handles reboots perfect since TOS 6 ( had to power cycle every time before, since 5.x something)
A+D so I have no wifi if that makes any difference
EDIT: I have no workaround implemented on my MOX
I’d like just to confirm, that my MOX (A + E + F, no WiFi, TOS 6.2.2 currently) used to hang upon every reboot (mostly required by updater).
After implementation of reboot-issue-workaround-v4 via SSH, extactly as described on the page, nothing else, just power-off/power-on after finished, subsequent reboots work as expected. At least next 10 reboots in a row ends with MOX working and accessible.
A new version of reboot issue workaround has been released.
People who still experience the issue, could you please upgrade your Mox firmware according to the instruction in the link and let me know if this sovles the reboot issue for you?
Thank you.
Did anyone have some time to test this? @Stemar @tac2 @bamf @Exa @roman-profiservis
Reboot issue was fixed for me after manually upgrading the bootloader.
For me the reboot issue disapered with TOS 6 if I recall correct
