WiFi 6 (ax) adapter

Hey, I got the original Wifi 6 upgrade kit for Omnia (Turris OS 6.2.0) from discomp. I have looked at official documentation and have not found any information about how to set it up. I don’t mind geeking out a bit, but I hope someone has written a howto for upgrading - both the HW and SW side. I suppose I’ll get a new LAN interface, so things like firewall, wifi configuration etc needs to be changed.

Did I miss some documentation? Forum post?

SW: I expect you’d need just the " Reset Wi-Fi Settings" button.

Hi, does anyone know why do the two antennas must be at the side of the Omnia case? There are five holes at the rear of the case and putting the two antennas on the sides mean that you must take care when opening the box and the pigtail connectors do not look like something you are supposet to unplug very often. I have the NAS upgrade which is a different box and I did not want to damage it by drilling new holes at the sides. Also, I have a fan on the outside on one of the sides so I cannot put the antenna there anyway. I placed all antennas on the rear side but I am not sure if there might be a problem with this placement. There is no textual info on this, just the youtube video which says nothing.

I have NAS box too, and have all antennas on the rear side. They dont have to be at the side.

I have drilled a new hole in the NAS box and it works perfectly. By the way does anybody know if it is possible to get the black hole covers after antenas are moved? The link in the guide points to eshop where the say that are out of stock

Maybe write to support so they send you a project and 3d print it yourself

There should be a minimum antenna spacing.
But I am not an antenna nor RF-expert. I really would like to have some input from the experts from Turris.

What I found on Google is that minimum antenna spacing should be 1 wavelength to reduce coupling between antennas, 3 wavelengths or more seems to be preferred.

1 wavelength is approximately 12.5 cm or 4.9 inches at 2.4GHz.
It is approximately the half for 5GHz and a little bit less for 6GHz.

On the other hand it makes sense, that MIMO does not work if all antennas are placed on the same place.
I guess more distance is better, but I still would like to hear a real expert.

What about electrician black tape?

Any updates on getting the 6GHz channels working with the latest version of TOS 6 and the AsiaRF AW7916-NPD card? The 5GHz AX works fine but see no way to select the 6GHz band or associated channels.

Anyone else using an AsiaRF AW7916-NPD card with any success getting the 6GHz band enabled and working??

We’re discussing just this thing in the GitLab thread here:

Intel WiFi 6

Have the same problem. Looks like 6 Ghz is broken.
