With laptops starting to come out that support Wi-Fi 7, and the current edition of Omnia supporting Wi-Fi 6 which doesn’t have the 6 Ghz band, when do you think we’ll see a Wi-Fi 7 Omnia? Sometime shortly after IEEE finalizes the spec in early 2024? End of 2024? 2025?
Wi-Fi 7 will depend on the development of pricing of the cards. Current Wi-Fi 7 cards price is way above prices of our current devices
We would really love to ship out the next Omnia succesor (not Enterprise) with Wi-Fi 7, but as I said, it depends on the development.
From what I know Omnia Enterprise should be Wi-Fi 7 ready, but I’m not so sure right now. Hopefully one of my colleagues, who know more, will correct me on this one
I feel like with Wifi 7, you’d really start to feel the bottleneck of PCIe 2.0 and 1GbE. Definitely more up the Enterprise version’s alley. Maybe the next consumer model could have a couple 2.5GbE and an M.2 slot?
Few weeks ago Asiarf had a M.2 wifi 7 card as coming soon. No mpcie version yet. Listing is not there anymore.
Hopefully new Omnia is going to switch to M.2, if card market is going in that direction.
Mpcie doesn’t make sense for wifi 7. With its single PCI lane, it would probably not be able to transmit at full speed.
Turris Omnia Enterprise is going to feature 3 M.2 slots for that reason
