Useful reason?
The reason is … the winner get the big chocolate from @viktor, isn’t it?
And every member of Turris team too … for releasing :+1:

I take you for the word, I will bring the chocolate for the winner to the next Evening with Turris.

OK, times are bad … we have to help each other …

Nor do I, as there is no real objective reason, I can see. But your behavior seems to indicate that you are not at ease and comfortable here in the forum. It is not only this thread, but rather a pattern of your postings that lead me to this conclusion. I think this is rather sad, and would appreciate if we could turn this “friction” into something productive.

This is what I mean, I am not interested in who said what when, but rather to get things back on track for the future. Why do I care? Because I have learned that internet fora where nobody speaks up tend to just deteriorate, and this forum seems not deserving such a fate.

Fair enough, but moderators are also “just” humans like the rest of us, if poked long/often enough they might show signs or irritation…

No, as you know I am not. But I do not consider a call to more civility/politeness to be an exclusive right for forum moderators, do you?

Fair enough, in that case I will accept that my call to civility ruffles a few feathers…

If the people responsible for moving TOS5 to HBT would create such a poll, or when the original post had enough context to make the context clear, you might have a point. But @victor intended this to irritate the team members, to cause a certain reaction, and I consider it to be fair game to call him out for that. You can keep ignoring that, but in that case, why do get hung up on my responses?

Good, we agree that @viktor is not helping his cause by his recent behavior.

Definitely not, it’s just vote.

Okay, it seems my flag of the vote wasn’t a clear enough signal to you, victor. I was disgusted by the vote. As moeller0 stated, if you provided some context (why is the poll here, what does it mean, if it has some effect on the acutal development/release process), then it might be preceived in a completely different way. But posting the vote just like this… I can’t think of any other reason than to **** off the dev team. And I stand by the dev team in this matter. They do what they can, and want to be sure they release a quality product. Why the haste?

Please, whenever you’re about posting something like this, try to express your motivation. Maybe it’s good in the end, but the form you use seems often (not always) offensive to me.

What exactly is impolite or uncivil about that poll that pings your moral compass?

They were on the ball apparently and been unambiguous on the subject:

  • split it from the initial thread (as opposed to deleting it), keeping it purposely alive
  • voiced their opinion to the poster
  • asked the poster about the intentions

But instead you feel apparently obliged nonetheless to add nothing but insinuations.

Now that is feather ruffling for you then, ain’t it… …it may as well be perceived as

Thus

That does not mean that other reasons may exist outside of your thinking. And if the forum admins would have disapproved of the poll, in spite been flagged, they could have as easily deleted the poll instead of entertaining it in a split/separate thread.

Least it has led to a round of chocolate from the poll initiator, thanks to the social skills of @Nones

This is where the administrator is in charge, as in all discussion forums.
@viktor permanently trolls out of the bowl. I tried to calm him down about 3 times in the SZ and direct the thing to smile and joke. There’s no help for him.

Because I created the poll?

This poll, after @victor’s recent history, without any additional context, does not strike me as a friendly poll for what the community here expects. But note, that I did not actually respond specifically to the poll, but rather after some unnecessary back-and-forth that to me confirmed the lack of good faith or the derailment of the argument. I fail to see any big “moral” argument…
And it spell it out, this poll can easily be understood as a method to rile up the user-base to demand faster transfer of TOS5 into the HBT branch. In my book this is not polite of very civilized, but I do not claim my opinion to be authoritative.

Yes, I felt and feel obliged to work to maintain forum civility. You repeat the “insinuation” claim, but honestly I feel we will need to agree to disagree on that.

Sorry, passive-aggressive has a rather specific meaning, and I have a hard time seeing my posts in this thread to fall into that category, I am rather direct in communicating the issues I see. Posting a poll without context and then claiming innocence and good faith like

now, that is a better match… Feel free to disagree.

“heeding your own advice?” ? I simply do not fall into the trap of letting the forum derail into incivility because i fear my interventions might be less than perfectly polite…

Sure, but Occam’s razor and Victor’s recent postings make a bad-faith-effort quite likely. And you know this.

This is not how civil discourse works, the admins here are rather conscious of the responsibility they carry not to “censor” opinions just because these are negative towards the team, but that does not necessarily mean that all forum members need to keep quiet. Even in RL there is behavior that is not sanctioned by penal law, but that is still frowned upon, so why should a forum be different?

But note, that my intervention was and is not to shut-up Victor, but rather trying to turn his effort involvement and energy into something positive, as I believe that this will be a win all around.

But I will now try to shut up…

Put in a vote and you might be eligible for some chocolate from the poll initiator, never know.
