Hello everyone,
Does it make sense to connect two SSDs via the two USB ports on my Omnia Turris router and configure RAID1?
I would like to install in LXC a Pi-Hole and thought in case on SSD defect from one drive.
Or is it better to connect only one SSD and make regular full backups so that the Pi-hole can be restored quickly in case of hardware failure?
RAID is not a backup tool.
We suffer data loss for all kinds of reasons, all the time.
Disk failures are one possible reason, but not the most common.
If you, or a broken piece of software, or OS, accidentally deleted your data, RAID won’t help.
If you use SSD drives and your setup experiences a power surge, both your SSDs will both be “flashed” and RAID won’t help.
If your location suffers an incident involving fire, flood or theft, RAID won’t help.
I could go on …

My question was not understood correctly. I know that RAID is not a backup. I just want to know how useful it is to make a RAID1 using two USB disks. It doesn’t feel right to do this with USB and I’m only concerned about the case when an SSD technically breaks but in the meantime I have decided against it and am installing my Pi-hole somewhere else.
I make backups with other tools.
