Turris OS 9.0 is now in hbl!

Dear Turris users,

We’re excited to announce that Turris OS 9.0 is making its way to the HBL branch!

Over the past months, we’ve been working on getting this major update to build and run smoothly. Turris OS 9.0 is based on the upcoming OpenWrt 24.10, bringing a number of improvements and updates.

As a result of this major leap, we are skipping Turris OS 8.0 entirely, since Turris OS 9.0 has already reached a higher level of stability and thus makes more sense to release a newer version.

That said, there are still a few known issues — all affecting Turris 1.x devices:

  • knot-resolver and morce do not currently work due to a newly released version of LuaJIT.
    • We’re actively working on restoring knot-resolver functionality.
    • Unfortunately, we won’t be able to make morce work again.
  • Sentinel related apps are known to write segfault errors into logs, but it should otherwise function. We’re aware of the issue and are investigating it.

Note that we just merged the HBD to HBL, so the system is currently compiling. The Turris OS 9.0 will be available in HBL shortly.

Great news! Are the new 5G-kit changes from 7.2.0 also included in HBL?

Yes, everything should be there as well.

Actually, has the “shortly” already happened? Is the HBL already giving TurrisOS 9.0? I just finished the update, but the router reports 8.0.

EDIT: Ok, it hasn’t been built yet. I got GCC 12, but OpenWRT 24.10 should be based on GCC 13… So I guess I have to wait a little bit more…

EDIT2: 9.0 is available in HBL now.
