Contrary to your assumption, I have already searched extensively about implementing Pi-Hole and had noted the difficulties involved.

It was merely a suggestion since it was not clear whether you already did. Not every forum user utilizes the search feature or finds a solution from the search results.

that it was still very difficult (for normal mortals at least) to change the DNS settings and that this problem could possibly be addressed within the RC stage.

Been addressed previously and split from this thread into a separate thread DNS over TLS in 3.11 feedback:

Neither been my intention. For one I am not supplying the code that would provide the feature you are seeking and secondly it is my opinion that a separate thread might offer better odds to actually get a solution to connecting the pi-hole. At least it was my impression that is what you wanted, aside from an easy way in the frontend. My apologies if that was misconceived.
