Turris Omnia from Kickstarter random reboots after 6.5.0 and upgraded firmware

It worked, it has booted and is running now :+1:

I donā€™t know what version of U-Boot I ran before my upgrade, probably a very old one.

U-Boot after the upgrade to 6.5.0 and firmware upgrade was:

U-Boot 2022.10-rc4-OpenWrt-r16653+119-44ce70f0e2 (Sep 15 2022 - 18:21:35 +0000)

now, when on 7.0 and after your instructions:

U-Boot 2024.01-OpenWrt-r20293+119-4432454037 (Mar 07 2024 - 04:53:41 +0000), Build: jenkins-TurrisOS-packages-hbl-omnia-768

I will monitor and report any crashes here.

@DIKKEHENK the problem is not with swap, the problem can manifest itself in various ways, if my suspicion is correct. Basically, a memtest would fail because the DDR controller is incorrectly configured.

@tuomaz please let us know if this helps. If it does help, I will send the patches to upstream U-Boot and we can finally upgrade U-Boot for everyone. This problem was chasing us for several years.

ah ok. And how do i do a mem test to check if i have the same problem?
Since i do suspect something is wonky on the WAN part after the whole FW update circus, but canā€™t put my nOOby finger on it?

Sadly, it has rebooted 3 times since yesterday. Below is the serial console log for the last crash + boot.

Router Turris successfully started.

Router Turris successfully started.

@tuomaz Sigh. OK, in that case I would like to request one more test of you: testing whether using the old stock U-Boot helps. The process should be as follows:

opkg update
opkg install mtd
cd /tmp
wget https://repo.turris.cz/archive/omnia/3.10/nor_fw/uboot-turris-omnia-spl.kwb
mtd write uboot-turris-omnia-spl.kwb U-Boot
reboot

After the reboot, in U-Boot command prompt, please reset the environment to default and save it.

env default -a
env save

After that please power off the board for several seconds, then power it up again.

Please let me know if this gets rid of the issues. If not, then that would mean that these issues are caused by something else from the update.

Flashed old U-Boot according to instructions, powered off Omnia for 3 minutes. Now it is up again and Iā€™m monitoring itā€¦

It just passed 24h uptime. It has not happened since I upgraded to 6.5.0 / new U-Boot. Keeping my fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

It now has an uptime of almost 4 days. It looks like the old U-Boot fixed it for my Omnia. Iā€™m very happy :star_struck:, thank you all.

Now, when it looks like it is working, Iā€™m planning to use the Omnia as my main router again, @mbehun is there something you want me to test before before Iā€™m going back to 6.5.2 and start using it ā€œnormallyā€. I will not be able to test things thenā€¦

Well I am not happy at all  Because this means that the old DDR training code I incorporated into the new U-Boot is somehow incomplete or something. I will try to find a board in the office that has DDR problems with new U-Boot and work this out. Hopefully I will be successful in finding such a board.

I understand. I will start using my Omnia as my router again, but let me know if you want to test something, I might be able to help.

Last question: any idea how many are hit by this issue? I donā€™t see that much activity here on the forum about this issue.
