SATA SSD connected via USB as external storage, no internet connection anymore

Infos

  • 1TB crucial SATA SSD. On Linux I deleted all partitions of it.
  • Connected with a SATA-USB adapter and a cable
  • webUI I enabled external storage
    • chose unset RAID mode as I want everything there, no RAID?
    • Got errors “external storage not available”
    • in the notifications this error showed up 4 times
    • but the first message was “external storage setup, reboot to apply”

reboot, issues

I clicked on the “reboot” button in that message and rebooted the MOX.

Now I see all wifi networks, but connecting to them gives me no network.

The MOX is on latest stable TurrisOS, updated in March

I tried connecting via Ethernet and wifi.

Ssh: error: network unreachable

WebUI: showed the top bar but no content inside

SSD

I connected the SSD to my laptop. It has a BTRFS partition called srv, in there a folder named @ and in there files from syncthing, so it seems to have worked?

Factory reset

After a factory reset it works again. I can try and enable it again.

The RAID settings are confusing as the MOX has only one USB port, and RAID to the SD card makes no sense?

I was able to exactly reproduce it

  1. Factory reset
  2. Setup wireless networks, DNSSEC
  3. Connect SATA SSD via USB adapter
  4. Enable external storage

It shows networks but there is no internet access.

I was not able to get debug info before breaking the system again, “getting debug info failed” or something without further details.

After enabling storage neither as no connection was possible anymore
