Quectel EC25-E modem connection drops. Only power pull - not reboot - temporarily fixes it

After re-flashing and reinstalling everything (just to be safe), still same problems.

Before this issue, I had everything running wonderfully for months - LTE (three.co.uk) only, no landline whatsoever. Then, ‘possibly, but not necessarily’ after an auto update, the connection would vanish after a few minutes of up-time. A reboot would not fix it, but a pull/reconnect of the mains plug would restore the connection for a few minutes before dropping again. This afternoon, I was able to connect, ping and download a 50MB file before the connection dropped after 5 minutes.

System log would be extremely lengthy, as the Quectel EC25-E Mini PCIe modem keeps on trying to reconnect. After pulling/re-plugging the power, and being able connect to the Internet for a few minutes, it then drops again, and the following sequence is repeated by the modem ad infinitum with no connection being established, unless you pull/re-plug the power yet again.

I dread to think how many hours I’ve spent on this issue. Hey, I’m a performer, not an IT professional

I had similar issue several months ago and traced it to unreliable SIM card connection (SIM card was pushed out from holder by underlying contacts). Is SIM card secured properly? What output do you get from AT+QINISTAT AT command when connection drops? Does it differ from AT+QINISTAT AT command output after power cycling when connection is established successfully? Normal output looks like this: +QINISTAT: 7. Other useful commands are AT+CSQ and AT+QNWINFO.

Waqur, you are a genius! That worked. After you mentioned bad SIM connection, it all flooded back to me: carrying the metal box around + removing the outer SIM surround - to first initialize in a mobile phone - probably contributed.

I’m happy  Thanks.
