OpenVPN - Migration from MOX to Omnia

Hi everyone,

I am currently using MOX as a OpenVPN server for devices running at multiple customers located across the country.

Unfortunately, the MOX is still suffering from the reboot issue. Thats why it will be replaced by Omnia 2020 (the silver one).

The OpenVPN server is having 10+ active profiles. So in ideal case, I would like to migrate the configuration from MOX to Omnia. This would avoid the need to distribute new OpenVPN profiles to the clients.

I am not sure how to migrate the OpenVPN configuration.

Do you have some advice how to do that?

My idea is to do following:

  • Perform basic configuration of the Omnia
  • Install OpenVPN plug-in and generate the certification authority
  • Stop the OpenVPN service
  • On the MOX, copy following files
    /etc/ssl/ca/openvpn/*
    /etc/config/openvpn
  • Copy the files from MOX to corresponding folders at Omnia (replacing existing files/folders)
  • Start the OpenVPN service on Omnia
  • Check the result

Do you think this might work? Did I overlooked some file/folder to copy?

Hi,
we have never tested it but your plan should work.

Please let us know the result.

For your information, I have created a feature request to implement the function for simple export/import of OpenVPN server configuration and CA.
