Omnia OpenWrt/Foris feedback

Hi there,

I received my Omnia few days ago and replaced my previous router - after spending some time with OpenWrt/Foris, I have to say I’m little bit disappointed about the OS. I understand it is not targeted for usual consumers, but still I would expect much better experience or at least much better documentation. Ie. some basic configuration through LuCI doesn’t apply without reboot (and there is no indication reboot is required) or the very basic Graphing solution through Collectd doesn’t show the interface names in the graphs etc.

I believe such wonderful piece of hardware would really deserve much better OS - am I the only one ?

I checked the possibilities to reflash it to different OS and came across this initiative around running Debian on it:

What are the plans to upstream Omnia specific kernel patches to Linux ?

Maybe it is what you WANT it to be like. I am myself a fulltime linux user and i have been messing with openwrt using virtualbox for couple of months and i am amazed of the amount of functionality. On the other hand, i should not even be amazed, because it is just a Linux distro, but then specifically for routers. But stil being a linux user for the past 8 years i still am blown away by the amount of functionality Linux distro’s show me till even this day.

About the reboot, i haven’t stumbled upon that problem with the virtualbox image. Also, you do know that usually it is a one time configuration and that’s it. So it is not like you need to work with it on daily basis, which would be logical that it would bother one.
