Absolutely not a problem. Appreciate your help. I just couldn’t afford to have this run into two weeks. I ran out of available time, that’s all.
Have marked this as solved.
Thanks again
It appears that you’re about to sell your Omnia (or did so already) so this might not help you any more but maybe someone else stumbling across this thread:
I experienced similar symptoms with my LTE module. After lots of troubleshooting I figured out that the SIM card (in its holder on the PCB) bulged upwards, just enough for some of the springs to lose contact. A replacement SIM eventually suffered the same faith, probably caused by heat. It was easy to fix though, by just adding an additional layer such as paper to press the SIM down.
Hi there from the UK
I appreciate your typing all that up for me. Guess I’m just too emotional for this stuff. Yes, I experienced sudden LTE network disconnects during the early days, and that appeared to be what you’ve described. To fix, all I had to do was get to the SIM card and re-seat it. However, I think this current issue is something different, where the modem itself is never detected, let alone the SIM.
I’ve come to the conclusion that as nice as the Omnia is, it’s still a land line router, with LTE as an afterthought. Also, it’s too delicate and flimsy to be truly portable. I’m not even sure if LTE is actually supported, but I did get replies back from their tech team.
As I no longer require WiFi - LTE being my main means of connection - and as I’m a ‘portable’ sort of person, I’ve just bought a used Teltonika RUTX09. It’s an industrial quality 4G, LTE only, portable router. Very small in size… for the same price I’m selling the Omnia for. End of problem. Best thing: it’s built like a tank and meant to be thrown around in all sorts of environments.
Once I have a 5G phone, I can see myself buying an even smaller Teltonika ‘LTE only’ router. One that has just a single Ethernet port for when mobile. I’ll then buy a small 8 port managed Teltonika switch that stays at home. For my use, this would be the perfect setup.
As WiFi is so flaky and insecure, plus mobile phone hotspoting now being severely throttled in busy London areas, being able to use a tiny standalone LTE router next to my laptop would be perfect.
Ha, ha, more than I thought I’d type. Apologies. I waffle
Thanks again mate. Very kind of you to message me
Regards
Harry
Okay… I see what you mean, that the bending SIM might be causing the modem itself to lose contact. That could make sense as it got worse as the Omnia heated up.
Guess I’m out of the loop now.
Thanks again anyway
Harry
