Multiple guest wireless networks

Is there a way either via Luci or the CLI to enable multiple guest wireless networks?
Ideally I would like to have an “IOT” wireless network (with isolated clients and big limits) and a secondary “real guest” network for guests.
Thanks.

Thanks! Is there a limit on the number of guest Wifis on the Omnia?

Openwrt users reported that more than 4 SSID’s is not optimal for network performance/driver. Look for the ath9k/ath10k docs/reports

That is true.

Sweet spot is 4 max.

The main reason iirc is that there is the beacons streams being transmitted quite often.

So to avoid possible:

  1. interference of transmitting in same time and as well
  2. the transmission itself consuming air time inn general (and becoming worse with collisions)

the less SSIDs, the more airtime per AP remains for the pure transmission.

As collisions happening by the rule: the more SSIDs per AP exist, the worse it gets.

So all above 4 SSID from AP (2.4 and 5 if combining under one SSID/password to let device decide where to stay).

I remember that in general:
4 SSIDs per 1 AP with 2.4 is 15% airtime already consumed just by beacons. If the AP is 2x, its 25%.

As it is not that intuitive, and not that often deployed - this is often forgotten knowledge.

Not sure how does this relate to newer WiFi standards.

Also that apply within the APs of the owner in ideal conditions (only this in the air - solitary locations or confined within thick walls), gets worse of course with more foreign APs in reach. But that’s another story.
