MOX setup: Error 503 service unavailable, 5GHz connection failing

First impressions

I just received my MOX! I have to say, really cool concept, I love the modular clickable no-screw design, it is so great for play-kids like me XD

I knew the process from my Omnia, connect to power, connect over LAN to laptop, split-tunnel open Firefox, go to Router site, allow self-signed, set a password.

first offline login

I then logged in and changed a few security settings (that I wished to have opt-out, like DNSSEC and others. You guys are way too reluctant to even set CZ.NIC as DNS server, come on!)

everything went fine, did a reboot and when all leds were off, pulled out the charging cable.

I dont like that, is there no real clean way to shutdown? The immutable OS shouldnt have huge issues, but what is with Nextcloud and all the rest?

first online login

Then I moved it, plugged it into WAN Ethernet, power, my LAN cable for connection.

Turned on normally, attempted a Nerwork check which unlike with the Omnia failed. Strange…

On the initial wifi setup page there was no WLAN option too, which is also strange.

Attempted to install some packages, did another connectivity check, not a single check appeares, very atypical.

I also checked for an update.

Then suddelny the router UI showed errors with API requests, I logged out, and then wasnt able to connect anymore.

waiting some time

The router must have done an update. It is now back on, everything is perfectly fine, all checks appearing and the notifications show an update made a few minutes ago.

UX

Please add a warning that the GUI might hang or crash while the update performs!

I have the feeling the Omnia is way more powerful, or just this update was unlucky.

Maybe forcing people to not leave when initiating an update could make this easier?

Everything went fine, while I thought for a moment that my router was bricked.

Okay strange I got the same error again

Error 503

Update: for some reason I needed to setup 5 wifis and not one flexibly 2,5Ghz or 5GHz? Not sure if this is the normal behavior.

For some reason the 5GHz antenna is extremely weak? I cant connect to the 5GHz network, it times out or fails or something.

The WebUI still constantly crashes, while I have internet…

The connection to the 2,5GHz network is pretty normal.

Still, cant connect to the 5 GHz network, while the 2,5GHz connects pretty slowly but works.

Maybe some hardware issue?

So it seems both 2,5GHz and 5GHz are available, but I still cannot connect to 5GHz.

This may be an issue with the MOXtet bus?

I had Wifi not working at all. Deconstructed the router, there is a single antenna, how does this only support 2,4GHz?

Now it works again, reliably and very far. But still just 2,4GHz.

I already tried various different settings, disable management frame protection (which my GrapheneOS phone and Fedora Laptop should absolutely support), switch to different Wifi standards…

Always when I try to connect it throws me out again.
