I have owned my TO since April ‘21 when I bought it new from Amazon.com.
I have no visible problems that could be related to the backup battery, but it’s been 3 years. Perhaps just simply changing the battery for maintenance is a good idea. However, I thought maybe there are any utilities that measure the charge left.
+1
Sounds interesting.
What is the battery actually doing? I know in PC the CR2032 holds BIOS settings and time. In Omnia there is no BIOS, so is it used only for keeping the clock running in case of power outage?
Btw. in PC it usually lasts over 10 years
And yes, it was such a small consumption the batteries would last that long if not longer. You could tell they were gone because your BIOS configuration was gone after turning the PC on.
I’ve explored that a bit some time ago to be able to create a diagnostic watcher that would tell when the RTC battery goes bad. I concluded that there is no standardized interface for that. Some motherboards provide proprietary interfaces to access the RTC voltage, but it’s not common.
Nope, it is a waste of time, money and ressources.
The RTC backup battery is a backup battery. It is used, when no power is applied to the device. As Turris is a device designed to run 24/7, the battery will most likely run way longer than in a PC, which is powered off from time to time.
So there’s no need to see problems where you say yourself that you have “no visible problems”. And stop waiting for a “better Omnia”. You are looking for a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.
