IP6 help needed ISP Ziggo (NL)

Hello fellow turris users,

Recently I received a new modem from my ISP. The good news is that IP6 is now full dual stack. The not so good news is that I can’t get IP6 to work between the modem and the omnia.

Symptoms:
WiFi using the omnia; only ipv4 addresses
WiFi using the modem; ipv4 and ipv6 addresses

I searched a bit on the net, but I can’t get it to work. Is there someone here who can point me in the right direction? Here is some basic info. Please ask if you want more.

ISP; Ziggo
Modem mode; router (I can’t put the modem in bridge mode myself)
Turris product; omnia

IP6 settings in luci:

Protocol; dhcpv6 cliënt
Request ipv6 address; try
Request IPv6-prefix of length; automatic

Thank you in advance for your help.

You need to setup prefix delegation on your br-lan interface. And set allow downstream delegation of ipv6 prefixes on your wan and it should work

Can you please explain how to setup prefix delegation on br-lan and setting allow downstream delegation of ipv6 prefixes on wan in luci?

I am quite new to ip6 so I lack the knowledge. Strange thing is, ds lite worked like a charm. The omnia (and machines after it) got an ip6 address. That all went automatically.

Go to luci and check advanced tab for the wan/wan6 interface and tick “allow downstream delegation of ipv6 prefixes”

And on your br-lan interface set this:

And restart the network

Can you at least see IPv6 address on your WAN interface?

I can see IPv6 on wan (wan6). But i dont see the options you have.

This is the info in my modem;

Did you check with your ISP about using your own device?
Maybe IPv6 delegation is tied to the modems DUID?

Also your screenshot of the modems IPv6 addresses, does not show any delegation. It just shows a single global IPv6 address (.../128) probably the modems external address, and a link-local address (fe80:...).

A delegation should ideally be a /48, some ISP might only handout /56 or /64.

Hold your hats people…

I have contacted my ISP. They said that this particular modem does not send delegated prefixes. The solution was simple; Putting the modem in bridge mode resolved the problem.

Solved! (for the time being at least)

Mark that as solution.

Your IPv4 is still visible.

Hello there… here the UB modem in bridge, and i do not have full dual stack? IPV6 works here, but after a reboot/update i need to check DNS, and manually select IP4 ‘default gateway’ to get the DNS on ip4 working…

Hi,

There are a few things that need to be taken into account here.

  1. I got the new SmartWifi modem (Sagemcom F3896LG)
  2. There is a difference in ISP hardware in the old UPC and Old Ziggo areas
    • Old Ziggo areas tend to have Full Dual Stack
    • Old UPC areas tend to have Dual Stack Lite
    • Ziggo is switching to Full Dual Stack in all areas
    • it may be wise to contact customer support and ask if Full Dual Stack is available for you
  3. It turned out it was not as simple as putting the modem in bridge mode

If you want a detailed version of the steps taken, please visit this link.

I hope this brings you a step further. My internet (and omnia) is way more stable, less bufferbloat, faster. And as a bonus I do not have a modem anymore with an intel puma chip. yay.

I will answer this in Dutch, since this is a Dutch provider only issue, me think…( & my technical IT english is crap  )

(Dus buiten oud UPC gebied)

Heel apart.
Ook daar nu geen enkele 6 naar 4 meer

And no one else lives or works in Holland.
