How to set a LAN interface as a SPAN or TAP?

I am interested in playing with something like SecurityOnion. I would like to set up a few items on the Omnia like a management VLAN and set one of the ports as a SPAN or TAP port.

Is this something that I’d have to do via IPTABLES or is there some easier way to do this. Is this something that would be supported by the hardware?

Are there any tutorials available for this?
