First impression / freeze on upgrade

I recently received my Turris Omnia.

I disabled automatic updates while I was testing it. It appeared to be pre-installed with a kernel built in October 2016.

After about an hour I wanted to update. I couldn’t find an option to make a one-shot upgrade, it only gives the option to enable or disable the automatic updates, so I enabled automatic updates.

The UI didn’t give me any feedback that an upgrade was in progress but when I looked in the process table with ps I could see it was doing upgrades.

Shortly after that, it became unresponsive, I think it tried to reset itself. After 15 minutes it was still not responding so I power-cycled it. Then it booted up normally.

Consequently, I’ve disabled automatic updates again, I don’t want it getting in this state again when I don’t have time to deal with the crash. If it crashes like this again, is there any way I can get more details about what went wrong?

If you log on the standard interface, you have messages about update displayed on the front page.

You could maybe start with a more recent image version to avoid old bugs: https://www.turris.cz/doc/en/howto/omnia_factory_reset#re-flash_router
