Hello,
I’ve noticed there are experimental options for updating Uboot and MCU firmwares. Is there any benefit to doing this? I’m wondering if I’m missing out on anything as my router works fine on the older versions.
Hello,

Someone who knows more than me should comment.
I have one of the early versions and I would gain the ability to boot from SSD by updating the uboot.
Boot from SSD is possible with all bootloader versions and firmwares.
Updating the bootloader and mcu might be needed for some people who have problems with RAM training (a quite rare problem I think).
You need to update bootloader to be able to use the new 5G kit.
I see, in my scenario it doesn’t make sense to update these I think. I also don’t have any jtag or serial connection stuff laying around in case it goes wrong, so there’s that
The latest uboot supports booting from an SSD plugged in the mPCIe SATA driver card connected to any slot.
I’m booting my Omnia from 2TB HDD…
Oh, wow. How do you know this? So it’s possible to reroute the SATA controller to any port?
When I was still part of the team, I asked if this functionality could be incorporated. Then I tried it for a few months with various experimental builds that were not intended for the public.
If you mean the SATA functionality of the first port near the CPU, this is not possible. You need to obtain this or similar HW.
Ach so… Thanks for the info!
