Compatible SFP Transceiver Modules

This topic is about CISCO, HP Compatible SFP Transceiver Module. I have always wondered whether compatible products are good enough and if they are as good as original manufacturer products.

When I was a teenager, I tried compatible ink cartridges and to be fair I never had any troubles. And if they were not good then I could afford to bin them because it didn’t matter much.

In this discussion, I am trying to cover a category of products which are one of the core components in networking world a lot more serious than an Ink cartridge. These products are known as Transceivers.

Transceiver Modules support Ethernet, Sonet/SDH and Fibre Channel applications across all switching and routing platforms. These pluggable transceivers offer a convenient and cost-effective solution for the adoption in data centers, campus, metropolitan area access and ring networks, and storage area.

From the definition, you can understand that this product is an important part of the big organization’s network.

My worry was if using these compatible products a good idea? Because it is a lot more serious than just buying compatible ink cartridges.

What did I do?

Before I made any decision on these products I decided to do research on these compatible products and somehow I was able to find an interesting article published by Gartner about these products. Gartner report explained How these compatible products are not just good enough to be used but also buying these compatible products can save us up to 50%.

Saving up to 50% is a magic word for me and I started doing my research in getting cost on these items. I approached a company called Megnet ltd,

Initially, I started looking for prices by visiting their website www.megnet.co.uk but unfortunately they don’t display prices and therefore I had to make a call to find more about prices. After getting the prices it became clear that I could actually save up to 50% but there is a lovely catch, they gave me lifetime replacement warranty on these transceiver modules. A lifetime warranty is a WOW factor for me and I completed my purchase.

I am just so impressed with my purchase that it let me write this topic. It has only been few months I started to use these products.

It will be interesting to know your views on these products as I am looking to invest quite a lot of money in these products and constructive discussion around this topic will help us all in making decisions while buying these compatible products.
