After extending MOX Power Wi-Fi with MOX E boot fails

hi,

I decided to remove a switch therefore I need more LAN-Ports on my MOX. I bought the MOX E Modul.

First I had a working setup (still working after building back) of a MOX Power Wi-Fi set with an MOX C modul.

What I did:

  1. Powered off the MOX
  2. Removed the MOX C modul
  3. Added the MOX E Modul in the configuration ASBWE
  4. Connected the LAN cables
  5. Powered on the MOX

After that the red light starts to shine and didn’t started blinking. After 10 minutes it short stops shining and started again.

I tried a few times to power off and power on, but never the red light starts blinking again. I tried over 5 hours and couldn’t get a successful boot.
I also tried without any connected LAN cables and only connected the main LAN Cable to the DSL-Router. But it doesn’t worked.

So I removed MOX E modul and added MOX C modul. With this setup MOX started after a few minutes blinking and was accessible.

Because I don’t know how to make further debugging, I’m asking here the question, if someone can give me a hint or help.

Thanks

this configuration (power wifi + E module) is exactly the configuration i use. and it works. so, maybe your E module is faulty… maybe you could add an usb stick and use the storage plugin to keep the system logs and read them out later to see where the boot fails?

Thank you for your advice.
Currently I need a working network, which is why I can only try this out next week at the earliest.

I’ll let you know how the result went and post my logs here.

one question I still have. Is it important that I didn’ connect any LAN Cables to the MOX after installing the MOX E Modul and boot it up the first time?

i am not the most versed guy with the mox … i had to ask for help several times, too… (btw, the email support is very helpful!, don´t hope for any official visiting here often)…

that said, i think it should not matter if any lan cable is connected or not, because the module is recognized at boot time check, the ports come after that. at least, that is how i think it works.

On last Friday I tried it again, but the logfile isn’t complete or better not chronical.
Also in the logfile are older an new logs from other tries. On Friday I tried at 8pm start the mox with the module E. But I can’t see anything in the logs about it.

Looking at the logs, I find it weird it would report failed CPU1… I´m on tos 6 with the moxes, so I can´t compare the logs 1to1, but I think it should not do that.
and

I guess that means it detects the e module, but at my MOX´ logs, it´s named Mox E module and not Topaz module, but that could be due to the difference between TOS 6 and the OS version you use. . You really should ask tech support Mr. Rechner and his team via email. They really know their stuff and are absolutely helpful.

Thanks, I’ll try it out again and than if doesn’t work will inform the support.

I’ll inform about the result here.

Hi,
now I’ll try with new hardware. But before I start, I have a question to your configuration.

Do you have also the MOX C modul added?

Because the configurator tells me that it is possible - Turris MOX Configurator

Thanks

at the moment, i have one mox power wifi with two E modules and one mox power wifi with the POE add on and one C module.
both mox and all ethernet ports work flawlessly

thanks for your quick reply. I’ll try this weekend to run the new mox with the mox E module.

So, finally everything works as aspected.

Seems my first mox has some technical issues. The new mox worked out of the box.

Thanks for your help.
