ActivityPub integration - what does that mean?

There is this new icon now on the new posts.

And that is how the existence of ActivityPub became known to me.

here is the info how it is integrated.

Have no problem with it at all - just do not understand much what it does and what is shared where?

There is some summary in the end of the thread.

And also both in greyed version.

Seems to me that can see this only with the threads I participated only with some post into them.

From the Discuss FAQ did learn not much at all.

Can someone give me an example how does post from here look like ā€˜on the other sideā€™?

For links, there is the user tag in the end.
If link is clicked, there is a counter with it.

So far this used to be the maximum what can I (as non admin), logged in user, track somehow. Would like to stay updated so do know what to expect from such functionality.

For example - does it anyhow allow me to follow the conversation elsewhere.

Can this link me to the thread so can see (and can eventually react)?

Or is it synced both ways and just people not yet reacted ā€˜on the other sideā€™ for my posts/thread/participation and so this not yet reveal itself?

We have enabled the ActivityPub support experimentally (thus without any public announcement). It is currently enabled for some categories in two different ā€œmodesā€. The first one is ā€œFirst postā€ and it publishes only the first post in a theme - this mode is used for Community office, for example. The latter one is ā€œFull themeā€ and it publishes all posts in a theme - this mode is used e.g. for General discussion.

You can follow our forum accounts by your ActivityPub account (Mastodon, Pleroma, Misskey,ā€¦) and get posts from the published categories. But please remember, that we can change the state any time (enable/disable ActivityPub for some categories, change the configuration, or disable ActivityPub at all).

As I know, the plugin doesnā€™t accept replies. It means that if you reply to a post via ActivityPub, it wonā€™t appear in the forum topic.

Here is an example of a forum post published via ActivityPub and displayed in Mastodon:

It it good also to mention, that we have a regular Fediverse (Mastodon) account, that we use to publish content related to the Turris project

Nice. May I ask whether you would be willing to add another category to the forum and at least post links to new posts with a short description (or a full cross-post)? It would be convenient if the forum would not be left out of all the turris related activity and announcements?

We want to gather some experience first. Then we will decide which categories to publish via ActivityPub, in which modes, and how to generally use it.

Currently, almost all forum categories are left out of the Turris related activity. The only exception is the Community office category and its subcategories. We publish announcements about new releases and similar topics there.

Thank you for information provided.

Just in case someone would like to stay with the post in this forum only - will there be opt-out on account or for post being made, to not allow Activity Pub to repost outside?

As having no accounts associated with this interoperability network, it is for me with 0 usability as the actions outside are not reflected here anyway.

As I know, the ActivityPub plugin doesnā€™t contain such feature.
