Turris OS 7.0 is in rc!

Transmission-daemon has been updated to version 4.0.3 in rc, but it is not working properly. Can’t connect anywhere.

Earlier today I got a notification in my email that a bunch of kernel modules were upgraded. And that reboot is needed. So I hit reboot earlier than the normal schedule in the middle of the night. This resulted in a boot loop. I’m able to connect via SSH for a few seconds in between reboots and there’s some kernel stack trace in logs. I’ll try to post details later. FYI.

UPD: so this ping stats demonstrate how much turris reboots vs. short few-second periods it’s available (SSH only becomes reachable after 7-8 successful pings and then, I maybe have like 10 seconds or less).

The first idea I got was to feed the ssh client the log output command right away and get everything (most?) written there up until the connection loss:

What’s that /etc/uci-defaults/50-libatsha204 thing? Since it doesn’t disappear across reboots, I assume it exits with an error? Also, the contents of /etc/rc.local comes back post reboot too. /tmp/atsha.sw it produces does not exist on disk and /etc/atsha.sw exists but is empty sometimes.

UPD: Using Rollback to latest snapshot fixes it for me but only if applied twice (latest minus one?)
Updating the packages and rebooting via reForis re-breaks it, after which a double rollback resurrects it. I disabled the automatic updates for now. Rebooting without applying updates keeps the system functional and there’s no boot loop.

UPD 2: I forgot to post the email notification with the list of package updates that seem to cause the breakage.

We tried to reproduce but without success. Do you have an old device and updated U-Boot? Does it still persist in 5.15.152?

We just released a new rc. Main changes are new kernel, fixed knot-resolver lua modules and fixed version parsing in updater-supervisor. Hope this will address most of the issues mentioned here.

MOX classic, HBK branch, .5 GB, 2x WiFi, simple config. All seems OK.

That last update is a failure on my side (Turris omnia).
It’s ending up into boot loop.
Had to rollback before update (tried the update multiple times)
Here is the logs from dmesg command I’m getting just before the boot loop :

I now found my Omnia with a totally full RAM and tmpfs for /tmp, mostly because of a 350 MB log of suricata. I don’t know what was logged because I’ve deleted the file to free up memory. This definitely needs some upper limit…

Hi, do you have some special setup? Do you use nftables? Have you configured something special somewhere? To debug it, the best way would be if we could reproduce it :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Would you be willing to share your rootfs? Change passwords, exporting it via http://turris.local/snapshots and send it through our support or via PM?

7.0.0 RC2 → 7.0.0 RC3 update okay. No noticeable cable/wifi/internet interruption. Restart was needed.

Transmission is still hogging the CPU.


Turris Omnia 2017, 1 GB RAM, dead eMMC, system running from mSATA SSD, original wifi cards, UBoot 2022.10. Storage plugin enabled, LXC containers, tor relay, USB HDD shared over samba4 and minidlna, Syncthing, SQM, Hardwario gateway + MQTT IoT bridge, OpenVPN, PPtP VPN, Strongswan IKEv2 VPN, morce.

Okay, so the log has reached 7 MB in 10 hours. It is full of these messages (once every second):

[ERRCODE: SC_ERR_AFP_CREATE(190)] - Couldn’t set fanout mode, error Invalid argument

And sometimes also (once in about 30 secs)

[ERRCODE: SC_ERR_AFP_CREATE(190)] - Can not open iface ‘tun_turris’

I have had behavior similar to yours with the last RC.

In my case the update went well, I did the reboot … but after this → the connection began to cut off both via Ethernet and WiFi.

Type errors in Re foris page like:
TypeError: t.map is not a function
TypeError: NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource.
Or internal server error.

The connection came and went and I was barely able to make a rollback from Reforis.

With the previous RC version (Kernel 5.15.148 on HBT) everything working fine right now.

I have no special configurations in my Turris Omnia 2020 except installed packages like Adblock, Dynamic Firewall, New Devices Detection and the latest MCU Firmware.

Via serial cable you can see it directly at the first line or from system via ssh through this command:

No, I bought my Turris Omnia 2020 directly from Amazon.

So should I update only the U-Boot and MCU before putting the latest RC?

What commands should I put via SSH to do that?

I ask because if I try to do it with Reforis it will install/update everything together.

Maybe the problem with this latest RC is that i had an updated MCU firm but an old U-Boot, I don’t know… I await instructions.

About the special setup, I’m using vlan and batman mesh which is out of the turris/foris scope, but they haven’t been showing any side effect until that RC.
I’m not using nftables but still with the old firewall pkg.

To export the configuration it might take little bit more time as there are quite a lot of credential here and there in the rootfs :smile:
