Switch to LEDE?

With the fork of OpenWRT, will the Omnia support LEDE and perhaps switch to the new fork if it’s successful?

When I read this discussion: https://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/phoronix/latest-phoronix-articles/869475-openwrt-gets-forked-by-some-of-its-own-developers-as-lede-project

I think TurrisOS will switch to LEDE

Is this something to worry about (seems like OpenWRT is having some difficult times… and it does form the basis of the Turris Omnia)?

Should we (read: cz.nic) follow up on this? Or is it better to stay with the original o.s.?

I would say that given the current state, we should wait and see once the dust settles  There were also some discussions about joining back and such. So I would say too early to choose a side, although LEDE looks promising.

This says everything:

Not really, we’ll see (at least something) on Wednesday http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/lede-dev/2016-May/000570.html

Although the fork is often more flexible/open/active than the original (maria-db, libre-office), I would not switch on every whim in the field.

My vote would go to just continue with the current plan and see how things develop over the months (years)?

Just my two cents though; it’s entirely up to cz.nic to choose what version they will base the Omnia’s firmware on (but I think this fork is too hot for such fundamental last-minute changes).

didn’t work out so well, the irc meeting didn’t take place… https://lists.openwrt.org/pipermail/openwrt-devel/2016-May/041633.html

Yep, but there are still some tendencies to try to merge somehow although nobody seems to have an idea how… Regardless, LEDE doesn’t have a release out yet so switching right now, just before shipping doesn’t look like a good idea and in the long run, we will see what will happen. And given the regular updates, switch is always an option

no, of course not

but for future considerations: there seems to be some interest in working on mvebu stuff on the LEDE side, already saw some commits… also nbd mentioned he’s working on the ethernet driver… (maybe you should consider sending him a unit)

Any updates? As I understand LEDE is much more active and a lot is happening there.
Might also be a good idea to add Omnia support to LEDE. What is NIC.CZ thinking about this?

Based on the some commit log entries it seems for me they might be using both OpenWRT and LEDE as an upstream for Turris.
