No dhcp working, low bandwidth

Hi,

I had issues with my MOX and therefore, I resetted the device firmware and restarted from scratch the previous weekend. Most issues persist:

  • my devices don’t get IP addresses from the activated DHCP server although I’ve created static leases for each MAC
  • some processes(!) do not get more than xxx kB/s from my 200 MBit-Internet bandwidth: e.g., https://www.speedtest.net/ reports proper speed, system update tasks (NixOS, Debian stable) or some web pages/wget/curl downloads get 100-200 kB/s only.

Device CZ.NIC Turris Mox Board
Serial number 56639911779
reForis version 3.2.1
Turris OS version 7.1.3
Turris OS branch HBS
Kernel version 5.15.148

Diagnostics file for: dmesg, dns, fimware, messages, network, packages, processes, reforis, services, system-info is on https://Karl-Voit.at/temp/2025-03-10-10-49-57_39f67dca.txt.gz (because upload here is forbidden).

The device was already sent back to you a couple of years ago but the original owner needed a replacement anyway. So he sold me the untested returned device which may be defective after all. At least mine did not work from the start.

What should I do?

Hi @mox7799,

I have skimmed briefly through the diagnostics and noticed few things.

  • There is a lot of failed attempts to connect to the 2.4 GHz SSID
  • You have “WPA3 with WPA2 as fallback” (default) wireless configured for both SSIDs.
  • SDIO card probably won’t work well with WPA3 encryption (FAQ - Turris Documentation).

So I would suggest:

  1. Setting wireless encryption in reforis to WPA2 only.

Unfortunately, a lot of devices have trouble with “WPA3 with fallback to WPA2 (sae-mixed)” wireless encryption. It is more reliable to set either WPA3-only or WPA2-only - depends on what encryption mode your devices can handle.
See: Encryption sae-mixed doesn't work always, but psk2 - Installing and Using OpenWrt - OpenWrt Forum

  2. If that won’t help, try disabling the 2.4 GHz wifi and use just 5 GHz wifi for a while.

  3. Also consider getting the Turris MOX Wi-Fi 6 Addon (DBDC) as replacement for the both wifi cards.

Anyway, best course of action would be contacting the support team: Support - Turris Documentation
