Network -> Hostname: which IP address?

In Luci, in Network -> Hostnames, where you have “Hostname” on the left and “IP address” on the right, when I have the name of my computer in the box at the left, which IP address should be entered in the box to the right? Should that be the computer’s LAN IP, or the WAN IP?

And if it’s the WAN IP, won’t that entry just be wrong the next time the IP address changes? (Right now I have the WAN IP addr there.)

Also, in the DDNS log portion below, does the “err” at the end of the following line indicate any kind of serious error that I need to correct?

#> /usr/bin/nslookup >/var/run/ddns/myddns_ipv4.dat 2>/var/run/ddns/myddns_ipv4.err

Does this log below, in general, look right? The router seems to be resolving OK now, at least at the moment.

  1. The IP that the hostname should be resolved to, most probably the LAN-IP of the machine.
  2. Everything is alright, the „err“ at the end just referrs to the logfile „/var/run/ddns/myddns_ipv4.err“ where all errors should be reported to. Google „bash pipes“ if you want to learn more about it.

The log you provided seems to be ok, your ddns domain should be updated correctly.
