I need a guide on setting up ExpressVPN with TurrisOmnia

Hi So I’ve successfully been using my Turris Omnia configured for VPN use with Giganews/VyprVPN. The issue I’ve had there is that all my streaming services stopped working (BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Amazon Prime).

I’ve been told by a friend that he uses ExpressVPN instead and gets to use these streaming services whilst maintaining is privacy/security through the VPN service. I signed up and they say that they support openVPV. In reality they only provide a .ovpn file for each of their server, they offer no further support (their support staff are merely following flowcharts). Anyhow, I can load this .opvpn file-through the basic Turris interface. If I go into the admin area and look at the openvpn section it appears to show a valid connection, even on refresh, but my IP does not change. Restarting the openVPN service directly on the router via putty I see no errors in the logs and it appears to be working yet still no change in my IP.

Does anyone have proper instructions for this? I assume its some advanced setting that is wrong somewhere, yet I’m at a loss after reading oodles of posts on the topic. I want all my traffic to go through the VPN. I don;t want to be installing anything on individual devices.

I should note that my main internet connection is via a BT home hub 5, with the firewall off and all traffic passed through the the turris router. Unfortunately, I don’t have fibre to the premises.

syslog after openVPN restart:-

Many thanks,

I gather this is a popular VPN provider so a decent guide might be in the interests of this community

Hi,

Can you post the contents of your ovpn file minus your username and password?
First thought is possibly firewall related, do you have a VPN zone in your firewall configuration?

Cheers,
