DNS timed out - Turris Omnia doesn't resolve requests

Hello,

i used the DHCP-Option “6,xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx” to give my clients a special DNS Server. This works like a charm and i never had a problem.

Now i wanted to install “adblock” https://doc.turris.cz/doc/en/public/adblock

I followed the instructions and changed the DNS server of my clients to the ip of my turris omnia (192.168.0.2). But my clients can not resolve any DNS names, i only get this message:

nslookup google.de 192.168.0.2
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.0.2

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.

So i thought something doesn’t work with adblock and i restored an earlier config of my router and change the DNS server IP to 192.168.0.2. But this hasn’t helped me.

If i execute “nslookup google.de 192.168.0.2” on my turris omnia everything seems fine:

Server: 192.168.0.2
Address 1: 192.168.0.2

Name: google.de
Address 1: 216.58.210.3 fra16s07-in-f3.1e100.net
Address 2: 2a00:1450:4001:816::2003 fra16s07-in-x03.1e100.net

I tried to disable DNSSEC and enable DNS forwarding without success.

Maybe some of you can help me with my problem.

Can you give more details about your network? Are you sure your turris omnia has ip 192.168.0.2? Can you ping 192.168.0.2 from your Clients? Might be a problem with some firewall settings?

If the same query works from Omnia and doesn’t work from clients, the problem isn’t in the setup of DNS server itself, as queries are resolved the same way regardless of where they came from (and it listens on all addresses).

Hello,

i re-flashed the router and now everything works perfectly, even the adblock

sorry for wasting your time guys
