Compex WLE200N2-23

I tried replacing the included WLE200N2 WiFi card with WLE200N2-23 (which is a higher-power version of the same card), however Omnia doesn’t appear to detect it (it’s not mentioned in dmesg, nor is it seen with lspci after pciutils are installed). I know that the card is a bit problematic - it wouldn’t work in PCEngines APU2 board either, but it does work in an Atom mini-ITX board that I have - is there any chance for it to work with Omnia?

fuck, got the same one :frowning:

not exactly, AR9287 vs AR9283 (plus the WLE200N2-23 has by far the best RX-specs of all 2.4GHz cards, that’s why i bought it)

any messages in the kernel log?

Here’s the bootlog - apparently even the bootloader doesn’t see it:

Router Turris successfully started.

It seems the card has some bits flipped in its eeprom. It gets detected as a mSATA device. This may cause it to not run at all on the PCengines boards which run coreboot. You atom board may ignore this info because it uses a proprietary bios which simply ignores this.

A option for both devices (Turris Omnia and PCengines APU2) would be to recompile the bootloader.

Have you tried using it in another Slot? Only the first slot has this kind of intelligence.

I’ve got a 120GB Kingston mSATA SSD in the slot nearest to the CPU; WLE200N2-23 is in the slot furthest from the CPU (the one that’s empty when Omnia was shipped).

Actually the mSATA / PCI detection is based on MSATAIND (physical) signal (pin 43) on the first PCIe connector. The bootloader reads the value (which is actually connected to the MCU and we have to read it indirectly over I2C). So the SATA indication might be caused either by bad wiring of the PCIe card that indicates mSATA by grounding the MSATAIND pin (we have seen PCIe cards with this pin grounded) or it is actually an mSATA SSD in the first PCIe connector. Which is most likely this case, according to the next ender’s message.

Anyway, if the card works in some PCIe slot in Turris Omnia and does not work in others, then there are two options: a) You might have badly soldered PCIe connector or b) there might me a problem in PCI initialization or mSATA/PCIe detection. It the card does not work in any PCIe slot, then it seems that it is simply incompatible with the PCIe root complex in Armada 385 SoC and there is not much what we can do now. Somebody could try to debug it, but it is probably going to take some time. And a PCIe protocol analyzer, the PCIe card schematic and a functional specification are most likely to be needed for such a job and I do not have neither of them.

Does someone know about any other high power cards with single band 2.4 Ghz b/g/n 2x2? I thought about getting a WLE200N2-23, too. Unfortunately the shipping costs etc. are quite high and now there are this compatibility issues.

Thank you.

Any news on compatibility with WLE200N2-23?

Another lurker waiting for some news.
