Cant enable 5Ghz WiFi: Device not active as well as multiple other issues

I can’t enable the 5GHz WiFi, on the Qualcomm Atheros QCA9880 802.11bgnac interface (radio0), it just says “Device is not active”.

Ever since I bought the Turris Omnia, 5 or 6 years ago, the 5GHz network have been incredibly unstable. It will work for a week or so at the time, then it will stop working, then it will start working months later without change.

The other problem is that sometime (right now) I loose connection on the 2.4GHz every 15-20 minutes. I can still ping the external IPs, but I can’t access any websites until I disconnect and reconnect. It is incredibly frustrating, since videos stop playing, connection to remote servers drops etc.

There is also an issue where I don’t get an IP-adress if I connect the WAN-port to the internet, I have to use another router in between. This could be an issue with my ISP.

All in all, I’m incredibly disappointed with this router and turris as a whole. For that price I would have expected it to at least function properly. It’s not the only issue I’ve had, I’ve posted on this forum about more issues. The users of this place have been helpful, but unfortunately I’ve heard nothing from turris. I would have expected more from such an expensive device.

to be fair, they openly communicated they won´t answer here, but only on github and via direct email contact.

You mean you wrote to the official tech support? (Not this community forum; see Support - Turris Documentation )

Let’s sum here one of our support colleagues cc: @Stepan to let him know about the upcoming ticket or perhaps he might help you even here. But yes, that would be rare in the first place, as others said. It is not usual to provide support on the community forum, because:

a) diagnostics contain sensitive data
b) troubleshooting here could be complicated and it makes the thread long
c) multiple posts or multiple things in one ticket make things makes it hard to read
Imagine that some thread has almost one hundred posts and some things can be forgotten.
d) there are missing any logs outputs in your post

and there are so many other reasons why we should not provide support here.

You can take a look here:
